So you're thinking of popping the question? Let's talk about the IDEAL timeline and then what to do if you're cutting it a bit short :) We know.... love is hard to time!

So you've been doing more lunges and squats and you've even started practicing what you're going to say in front of the mirror.... but what about the ring?

Let's talk about the different parts of getting engaged and how/ when to go about them. Type A people are going to love this.

The Perfect Engagement Timeline

START SAVING - 6 Months to 1 Year Out

But how much!?

If you look on the internet or talk to your friends you'll get a lot of different answers about how much to spend on an engagement ring. The generally agreed upon rule is 2x your normal monthly salary. So if you normally make about 5k/ month, then try for a $10k ring budget. Or if you make $80-100k/ Month then shoot for about a $160-200k ring

While it doesn't matter to us what your budget is, keep in mind how often you're going to see this ring and how often your partner is going to wear it....

a LOT.

More than anything else you've ever given to this person (unless you got matching tattoos) so this is the time to think QUALITY if you can.

Also, by starting to save up this money, it helps to figure out what's possible for your budget. We have a whole other blog on how to maximize your budget to get the most bling for your buck, but once you have an idea of what you can spend - then you can see what's possible.

This is important because many people overestimate what they can get for their budget and so if you need to make adjustments to accurately reflect the ring you really want, 1 year to 6 months is enough time to do that.

Start Researching - 6 Months to 3 Months Out

That way it gives you time to be sneaky, asking her friends and family, plan out the order of events for the big day and really get an idea of how much your ring might cost.

Why at this point?

While we've gotten people a ring in a hurry and I've (Robbie) personally seen people buy a 6 figure ring on the spot because he needed it right away.... most guys like to have a bit of planning involved.

Within 3 months, we have an accurate idea of what we're working with and there is enough time for us (KCJ) to put things in place to get your perfect ring.

The average amount of time from downpayment placed to ring in hand is 21 days.... so 3 months MIGHT be a little far out but we want to give ourselves a lot of time to have the ring in your hands safe and secure with a good buffer.

Also, once you have the ring in your hands, a lot of guys end up popping the question earlier than originally planned! Sometimes months earlier! So if you just get that 'feeling' then you can go ahead and do it when the moment is right rather than waiting for the ring to arrive.

Beyond this, there are a few different methods of creating your custom ring and some of them take longer than others.

For example, if we hand forge your ring with stones and metal that you brought to us... that's going to take a little bit longer (around 1.5 months) than if we just get you a simple classic single solitaire ring brand new and custom made to order (2-5 days)

The reality is, if you want the Rolls Royce of rings, but your timing isn't perfect we MAY still be able to get that ring to you on time. But be warned, getting high quality jewelry on and off the island can be a bit of a process so this is why we like a healthier buffer.

That being said, we have connections EVERYWHERE and we will bore a hole straight through the earth and dig up a diamond for you if we have to.

The quickest we've gotten a completely custom made engagement ring done for a client on island so far is 3 days from the time of deposit so you could be totally fine for this weekend! But we need to talk and help you understand what options you have.

The other option is to get a temporary ring which you can have immediately and then upgrade/ redesign to something nicer before the wedding.

We did this recently with a guy who had too tight of a schedule for his dream ring and he ended up coming back after she said "yes" to get that perfect ring.
